此件盖碗翡翠质，属于青水地，质地透明，泛青绿色。碗盖拱起，抓纽中空，碗身撇口、深腹、腹下斜收至底，圈足。造型端庄，小巧秀丽，质料莹泽细密，清澈通透，白中透闪翠色，富晕染效果。遵循“大玉不琢，良材不雕”的原则，通体光素，以显示材质之美。壁薄质细，琢工精湛，为清代玉碗的精品。翡翠原为鸟名，根据东汉许慎的《说文解宇》关于翡翠的解释为：“翡，赤羽雀也。翠，青羽雀也。”从其字意分析，以上的翡翠均指红、绿两种颜色的鸟。汉代班固《西都赋》中“翡翠火齐，流耀含英，悬黎垂棘，夜光在焉”，其中的翡翠当为玉。惟其时一直比较少见，到了清朝初期才从缅甸通过西南丝绸之路，大量运入中国，颇受清朝皇室的喜爱。
