清道光朝龚洵在所编《景德镇陶歌》中称：“官古窑成重霁红，最难全美费良工。霜天晴书精心合，一样抟烧百不同。”由此可知，烧造一件颜色均匀亮丽的霁红釉器，并非易事。荸荠瓶为清代流行之瓶式样，因状如荸荠而名。清代康熙年间首创，雍正、乾隆官窑多有烧造。拍品尺寸较同类作品略小，器形更显端正俊雅，口沿微撇，增添几分俏美之感。瓶外壁满施霁红釉，腹部流釉色略深，整器釉色古雅纯正，宝光四射，釉质凝厚。口沿灯草口装饰，足部露胎，别有韵味。此式瓶存世较为少见，瑞典著名中国陶瓷收藏家鲍尔收藏有一件雍正茶叶末釉荸荠扁瓶其造型与拍品相同，由款识写法可知此瓶当为乾隆早期之作。
