本品撇口，细颈，垂腹，圈足露香灰色胎体，有明显跳刀痕。器身、器底及敞口部分施黑釉，上腹部釉层较下腹部厚，略有流釉现象，釉色乌黑锃亮，釉面布满桔皮状结晶，如夜空中繁星点点，耐人寻味。当阳峪窑是宋代北方著名窑厂，属磁州窑系之一，创烧于唐代，北宋后期至金代达到巅峰。其中，酱釉、黑釉瓷是当阳峪窑的代表性品种。这件当阳峪窑黑釉玉壶春瓶将常用在茶盏上的桔皮状的装饰技法用在玉壶春瓶上，也是别有一番风趣，故而这是一件不可多得的收藏佳品。
