题识：愚兄曾国藩顿首。正月十六日。|钤印：涤生 |释文：意城仁弟亲家阁下玄腊接奉，惠书藉审。禔躬康胜泊然物外岂胜企仰。国藩自奉命北征初筹四镇之兵，继谋游擎之师，诸未就緖，倏逾数月。捻党悉众西趋，于是中外谪冢，纷纷责弊部不能与赋纵横追逐。迨冬腊月间，弊处游兵狙巳成军正拟并力西向专辨豫事，而任赖牛李等酋全趋鄂省黄麻一带。张总黑亦由南阳窜入襄樊，又有成部叛勇之变，楚事日赖不得已。榭刘省三一军由周家口援鄂，不特前此，所奉十府外不能自守其说，即谕旨所指之三省亦不能略遵而自画矣。自须多筹诸维心鉴顺问。台安。
