|此件沉香木雕笔筒体量较大，筒壁厚实，口外侈，器形稳重端庄，色彩浓厚。整个笔筒图案如波浪起伏，富有动感。刻者采用浮雕，层层递进，三维效果佳，层次感强；落刀如斧披凿，斜刀坡度极大，环雕山石、云松、人物及动物殊为精绝，匠心独运。沈香木自古以来就是非常名贵的木料，亦是工艺品最上乘的原材料。明、清两代，宫廷皇室皆崇尚用此木制成各类文房器物，工艺精细，与犀角制作相同。由于沈香木金贵，用之雕刻，少有大材。闻之香气宜人，是非常难得的文房精品佳器。
