SOTHEBY'S: PAIR OF SUPERBLY ELABORATEd CINNABAR SCREENS, EARLY 19TH CENTURY, of Hongmu, Hardwood, Mineral, Black and Cinnabar Lacquer; Very detailed deep relief carved rectangular panels with a double gourd-form panel adorned with a multitude of inlays including green and white jade, hard stone, cloisonné, mother of pearl, within a cinnabar border, depicting archaic objects, the wide ground carved in deep relief with the Eight immortals in an imaginary landscape.
The reverse with a black lacquer double gourd-form panel decorated with bamboo and other plants with a calligraphic inscription. Supported by an 'H"-form hongmu base with schoolwork, the upright posts with angular scroll braces.
