|Created as an homage to fellow artist Joseph Beuys (1921-1986), Haring references Beuys' monumental 7000 Oaks – City Forestation Instead of City Administration land art project, created for Documenta 7 in Kassel, Germany in 1982. Haring merges Beuys' face into a tree trunk, relating to the 7000 oak trees and basalt stone markers that Beuys and volunteers planted along the streets of Kassel.
