|The painting shows the jockey William Scott mounted on Memnon before the Doncaster stadium. Memnon was the winner of the classic St. Leger stakes in 1825 at Doncaster. Bred and owned by Richard Watt of Burton Constable in East Yorkshire, he was a consistant winner ridden by the jockey 'Bill' Scott. He was later sold to Lord Darlington and trained in Newmarket.
