Description: A large monkey and a young monkey holding a rope on the branches and leaves of an oak tree. The large monkey has a turtle on its shoulder, whose shell and motion are captured in a very lively manner. The monkeys are reminiscent of the carver Masatami in their style. Some minor blemishes, especially on the leaves on the underside. A boar has just run over one of the two men, who is lying flat on the floor. His friend, carrying a katana sword, is leaping onto the boar, trying to grab it. The pig is the last animal of the Japanese zodiac and is a symbol of foolhardiness. The dynamically crafted scene is reminiscent of Nitta no Shori, who was hunting on the slopes of Mount Fuji when he attacked a boar, riding it facing the wrong way before stabbing it to death. Himotoshi on the boar and the stump leg of the man lying on the floor. Condition: Losses to both okimono – minor restorations required Provenance: From a German private collection
