Born in Alsace – then Germany, now France - in 1907, Jean Michel Schlumberger displayed a voracious interest in art from a young age, though with his parents refusal to allow him any formal training, he remained a self-taught talent. After World War II, he moved to New York where in 1946 he opened a jewellery salon which subsequently caught the eye of Hoving Walter, the president of Tiffany & Co. who asked him to design for the firm which he did from 1956 until his retirement in the late 1970s. Taking inspiration from nature and the animal world, Schlumberger's talent quickly attracted many star clients from Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor to Jackie Kennedy and the Duchess of Windsor and his pieces occupy a distinctive place in the history of Tiffany & Co. Michel Schlumberger在1907年出生於現已屬法國但當時還是德國的阿爾薩斯當,他在年輕時巳表現出對藝術的濃厚興趣,儘管他的父母拒絕給他接受任何正式培訓,但他仍然可以自學成才。
