轧道工艺，又名雕地，锦上添花，是先在白胎上均匀施一层色料，再在色料上用一种状如绣花针的工具拨划出精细纹饰，最后配以花鸟、山水等图饰或开光图饰。此工艺出现于乾隆时期，此后历代多有继承。这种方法综合了西洋铜胎画珐琅与中国粉彩绘画两种工艺技法，中西合璧，甚有时代风格。据《清档》记载，此类器物为宫廷所用之器，这种玲珑精美的色地轧道开光碗，不但色地各有不同，开光内的纹饰也极其讲究，随四季景物的变化而绘写寓意吉祥的纹饰，但总体仍然保持富丽堂皇的宫廷气象，足见当时朝廷对于这种形制的碗的重视与喜爱。本对碗釉彩妍美，轧道精工，绘工精细，色彩典雅，为道光时期官窑上乘之作。与本品纹样相同者，可参考北京故宫所藏清嘉庆蓝地轧道开光粉彩花卉碗。
