此文箱一木一器同料制成，长方形，尺寸比例精当，子母口，口沿铲地剔出皮条阳线，箱盖与箱体木纹均能对接，制作规整考究；盖顶四角嵌饰如意云头铜角，四主墙和四底包镶铜活，稳固结实，圆形面页配如意云头拍子，朴实经典，木纹行云流水，气韵通畅，蟹爪纹、狸斑、鬼面活跃其间，富有一种端庄典雅的韵味，是为明代文人盛放笔墨印砚的经典文具箱，明末家具收藏素有“十清不抵一明”之说，此言不虚。
