|这件持经观音像为铜质，高髻宽额，额有白毫，眼目低垂，长鼻小口，容貌肃穆，身着汉式长衫，衣纹流畅，一手抚膝，一手执经卷，呈坐姿。|持经观音本为三十三观音像之一，《法华经?普门品》中云，“应以声闻身得度者，即现声闻身而为说法”，此形象即由此而来，手持经卷象征为众生说法之意。也有一说是持经为声闻身，即「声闻观音」，以观世音菩萨之慈悲大愿，引导众生开悟。因此，持经观音又称声闻观音，象征着开启智慧并取得成就。日本东京国立博物馆藏有一件由清代画家卓峰绘制的《三十三观音图卷》中即有此形象。
