Shadbhuja Mahakala. Tibet / China. Partially fire-gilt copper sculpture. Polychrome painting. Throne pedestal and aureole removable. Height 19 cm (7.5"). Weight: 1840 g. From German private collection. The six hands of the Buddhist Dharmapala holding skull-mala, damaru, kartika, kapala, and trisula, the last hand showing the demon banishing karana mudra. Standing in powerful alida-asana on an elephant-headed Vedic deity and a lotus pedestal. Wrathful expression and adorned flaming hair. Wearing a skull crown, some snake ornaments, and a tiger skin around his hips. A long scarf around the figure. Bottom covered with copper consecration plate with seal. Slight signs of age and wear.
