The first has a black painted brass frame contained within a fitted box with three brass and black enamel scopes of varying magnification is engraved "A. Hurlimann A Paris 1554" on the arch. Case is Mahogany brass bound with brass carrying handles with original surface. Sextant measures 9-1/2" x 10-3/4". Case is 4-1/2" x 12" x 10-1/2". The second sextant is made by George Dobbie, Glasgow. The ebony frame with ivory inserts, the center most is marked "George Dobbie, Glasgow". Has brass arm and lens in its original case. The first of two labels reads "W. E. Hadlock & Co. Chronometer and Watch Makers, Boston"; the second is for "S. Thaxter & Son, Dealers in Instruments, State Street, Boston". The original Mahogany case with hinged lid does have a repair to the corner of the lid. Sextant measures 12" x 9-1/2". Case is 4" x 12-1/2" x 11-1/2". Both are in very good condition and appear operational. All lenses are intact but fogged. From the Ray Bentley Collection. Condition: Dimensions: Largest Box : 11" x 12" .
