Second half 18th century, England. In two parts, the upper case with dentil carved molded cornice, above a pair of cupboard doors, each with inlaid oval panels within rosewood cross-banded borders. Each door with applied molded edges opening to an interior fitted with three sliding linen storage drawers. The lower case with hinged to drawer which opens to form a tooled leather writing surface. The interior fitted with two rows of short drawers centering an inlaid prospect drawer flanked by narrow document drawers, each with inlaid vinery. All beneath a row of valanced pigeon holes. Beneath the desk are two long drawers, each with cock beaded edges. The case on a molded base, raised on strong pronounced ogee bracket feet. Very fine with strong color and rich patina, having been professionally polished and restored in 1986 at the time they were acquired by the current owner. One backboard in upper case is absent, two linen drawers in this section are also absent. Condition: Dimensions: 88-1/2" x 50" x 22".
