Circa 1710-1730, New England. Pine with original red painted surfaces. 19th century Spanish brown varnish stain overcoated. The sharply raked back with bold, high scrolled tombstone form pierced heart crest. Outward canted wings terminating in large upswept lollipop form hand grips, above the trapezoidal shaped seat with overhung front. Base sharply canted rearward, the backboard hinged, retaining its original fine iron turnbuckle. Front and sides of base with cupid's bow scrolling. All elements original, no repairs or losses, hand cut screws and rosehead nailed joinery. Shadow evidence of early or original (probably leather) waist strap visible, inner sides of lower wings. Excellent untouched original condition, minor expected old surface wear abrasions. Condition: Dimensions: 30-1/2" x 12" x 13".
