Late 19th century, retailed by J. E. Caldwell, Philadelphia. The bonnet with molded and leaf carved swans neck crest, terminating in flower heads, alternates with three urn-form flamed tipped finials above the arched door, and flanked by spiral colonettes fitted to the case. The throat with glass paneled door superimposed with delicate metal scrolling fret work, is flanked by spiral twist colonettes, and joined to the box base with architectural carved molding above a shell-carved panel in relief. The whole is raised on carved paw feet. The eight-day brass movement is driven by three brass weights. The brass dial, with brass mask spandrels centering a Roman numeral chapter ring, has a subsidiary seconds dial, and three winding apertures for time and strike, all beneath a moon phase dial in the arch. A plaque inscribed J. E. Caldwell & Co./Philadelphia. Condition: Case retains original surface, with fine undisturbed patina, movement appears clean and intact, very good plus overall. Size: 8 4" tall, 27" wide, 15" deep. Note: This clock is offered with three original brass-clad weights, a pendulum and a winder. From the Ray Bentley Collection. Condition: Dimensions: 123" x 27 -1/2".
