IMPORTANT CHINESE JADE & SILVER MOUNTED CLOCK. The imposing dome shaped green carved jade base with repeating relief, carved pattern on border, and resting on a chased silver gilt base with four spread legs at each corner. The heavy jade base set with two opposing spinach jade columns resting atop white jade carved pear forms, and at top supporting a finely carved green jade pendant (probably Qing Dynasty) from which hangs, in silver gilt mountings, a green carved jade bangle set with a clock displaying an engraved dial with Chinoiserie landscape and Chinese style Arabic numerals from which are suspended three hexagonal carved jade rings holding a larger green carved jade circular frame upon which is perched a finely carved white jade pheasant. Almost certainly retailed by the Edward I Farmer Gallery, New York, circa 1925. Overall height 12 inches (30.5cm).

Edward I Farmer (1872-1942) was both a collector and well known dealer in Asian objet d’art. He operated a gallery on 56th street in New York from circa 1910-1940. Farmer was a master of incorporating vintage Chinese jade into modern custom creations, especially clocks of which many examples are known.
