Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A fine head, hand-carved from white marble, depicting the haunting guise of a female goddess, perhaps Aphrodite or even the Egyptian Isis. She is presented with smooth cheeks, a rounded chin, full lips below a prominent nose, and hollow eyes which were likely inlaid with precious stones or other colorful materials. Large drilled piercings are situated around her ears, with the countenance presented beneath wide plaits of hair and a slender diadem. A fabulous and quixotic example from Hellenistic Greece! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 1.375" W x 1.875" H (3.5 cm x 4.8 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand. Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection, acquired at auction All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience. #135351
