East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A delightfully-portrayed tomb attendant, mold made from ceramic with beautiful glazed pigment. He is a man wearing an elaborate green coat with a long blue skirt and green pantaloons beneath it. He holds a large red mirror in his hands, with a hanging yellow cloth below it and a conical, wide-brimmed, black and red hat. His face is wonderful, with a contemplative expression and heavy jowls. Hundreds of pottery figures like this one were placed into tombs during the Ming period. Size: 3.55" W x 11.2" H (9 cm x 28.4 cm) Provenance: private S.
