Qing, A Rare and Large Silver-Glazed Zun Of archaistic Zun form, the exterior powerfully carved and molded in low relief with a central band of Cicada lappets in geometric pattern, below a scroll of taotie medallion flanked with two beast-head mock handles. Covered overall with a light layer of silver with an iridescent sheen to simulate the worn patina of archaistic silver vessel. The base incised with an impressed reign mark within a recessed cartouche. Archaistic Trompe l’oeil, as this silver-glazed zun, to imitate the gilding, was favored by the Qianlong Emperor who had a penchant for the novel. Archaic and archaistic bronzes were particularly popular and copied in a great variety of ways with different glazes, flambé effects and with gilding and silvering to imitate inlay. Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Six Character Mark and of the Period.
