龙纹于瓷器上的应用始于唐代，宋、元以后愈加广泛，晚明万历朝官窑青花瓷集永、宣、成、弘瓷业发展之大成，开创了晚明瓷业发展的新局面。在龙纹装饰方面，元末明初特有的强壮、粗犷、豪迈的龙纹形象被万历朝洗炼、俊俏、洒脱的风格所替代。此拍品系万历青花升龙图，绘画细腻，釉色盈润，之上所绘龙形拉长，身体呈桥形拱起，头部加大，双眼突出，鬃发茂密向后飘拂。龙多为五爪，短小而尖利，四爪指在前，一指在后呈轮式挣张，龙鳞简洁，与祥云、海水配合，寓意祥瑞。
