By Yabu Meizan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Finely decorated in enamels and gilt with an all-over design of figures, mainly chidren engaged in different activities or pursuits including calligraphy, poetry, painting and playing the shamisen, the lower bottom section depicting figures cleaning tatami mats in preparation for the New Year; signed on the base with a gilt seal Yabu Meizan. 6.5cm (2½in) high.
