By Beiho, Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926), early 20th century The body decorated in high relief with a solitary, majestic ho-o (phoenix) in flight with all its feathers spread out forming a canopy over the front shoulder of the vase, signed on the base with chiselled characters Beiho saku; with a wooden storage box with label inscribed Do marugata ho-o koku Beiho saku (Bronze circular [vase] with ho-o design, made by Beiho). 20.2cm (8in) high.
