Manuscript DS, signed ÂGeorge R, one page both sides, 11 x 17.5, August 9, 1758. Military document related to the use of fictitious names on muster rolls, issued to Paymaster of the Forces Henry Fox. In part: "Whereas, It has been usual to allow a Number of Fictitious names upon the the Muster Rolls of each of Our Troops of Horse Guards and Two Troops of Horse Grenadier Guards instead of Effective Men in order to Increase the allowance of Pay to the several Officers of the said Troops, the better to enable them to Maintain their Ranks in the Army and for other purposes Our Will and Pleasure now is, that the said Fictitious Names shall be no longer allowed upon the Muster Rolls of our Horse Guards and Horse Grenadier Guards nor upon the Muster Rolls of Our Regiment and Forty one Independent Companies of Invalids as formerly, but instead thereof We do hereby Authorize and Direct that in the Debentures to be made out by you from Time to Time for the Pay of Our Troops you take care to allow the full Pay." The document further outlines this extra pay as it pertains to each. Signed at the head by King George II, and countersigned at the conclusion by Chancellor of the Exchequer Henry Bilson-Legge and two others. In very good condition, with old tape to a few short tears and along the separated central horizontal old. Accompanied by an engraved portrait of the king.Format: DS
