American novelist (1921Â1977) who won the 1952 National Book Award for his first published novel, From Here to Eternity. Two items signed by Jones: a glossy 8 x 10 photo of the author posing at a fireplace, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "Mr. & Mrs. Ken Browne, Best Wishes, James Jones," with a typed notation on the reverse indicating that it was received in 1957; and a TLS, one onionskin page, 8.25 x 9.5, May 24, 1974, in part: "I have spent a fair amount of time in Arizona myselfÂmany years ago I had a house trailer which I pulled with a jeep, and with this rig travelled all over the West, spending a number of winters in Tucson and environs. So I know the kind of country you have out there and I envy you." In overall very good to fine condition, with creasing to the photo, primarily in the upper left corner, and surface impressions from typed notations on the reverse.
