The plates were prepared originally by Bartholomeo Eustachi (Eustachius), and completed in 1552, but they were lost until Lancisi published them in 1714. Albinus created carefully copied line drawings to mirror each of the original Eustachius plates, having them engraved by Jan Wandelaar to create the full set of 89 plates.
