British-born character actor (1877-1959) who won the Academy Award for his supporting role as Kris Kringle in the holiday classic, Miracle on 34th Street. Partly-printed DS, four pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.5 x 11, stamp-dated June 24, 1942. Questionnaire for employees of the motion picture industry, with Gwenn answering several of the questions in bold black ink, including: Full Name ("Edmund John Kellaway Gwenn"), Citizenship ("Great Britain"), and other sections relating to his address and physical appearance. When asked if he has ever taken an oath of allegiance to a foreign government, Gwenn answers "Yes," and relays the reason why: "When I joined the British Army in the first World War I swore allegiance to the King." When asked if he ever served in the armed forces of a foreign country, Gwenn again answers "Yes," and states that he "Joined the Royal Army Service Corps, Horse Transport; served as a Driver, Lance-Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, 2nd Lieutenant, Lieutenant and Captain in both England & France (with the 31st Division, 1st Army." Of the sections filled out by another hand, one particular highlight regarding 'Scars or Physical Defects' notes that Gwenn bears a "Bullet scar right ankleÂsmall mole left eye brow." Signed at the conclusion by Gwenn, with upper right corner of first page bearing a small attached MGM studio portrait of the actor.
