Collection of items signed by Louis Armstrong and various members from his band, dating to a performance in upstate New York in 1964. The small archive is highlighted by a pair of vintage glossy 8 x 10 promotional photos of Louis Armstrong, one in a jubilant close-up pose and the other of him smiling and holding his trumpet, both signed in green fountain pen, with one inscribed to “Jess Jr.,” and the other to “Jess Sr.” Also featured are two vintage glossy 8 x 10 promotional photos individually signed and inscribed by noted members of Armstrong’s touring ensemble, Jewel Brown and Danny Barcelona, with the latter also signing the reverse of the Brown photo. Additionally, the collection also includes six clipped sheets bearing vintage ink and ballpoint signatures of Armstrong, Barcelona (3), Brown, Russell Moore, Arvell Shaw, Eddie Shu, and Pierre Tallerie (two, Armstrong’s manager), with the six slips affixed to a white 8.5 x 11 sheet. Items relating to the referenced New York concert include: a handful of vintage candid photos of Armstrong and his band during their stay at Studebaker’s Motel near Plattsburgh, New York; a Studebaker’s Motel business card; a newspaper clipping from the Press-Republican noting Armstrong’s performance at Airborne Park, dated June 30, 1964; and a handwritten note from ‘Big Chief’ Russell Moore.
