A Turner creamware crested and armorial quatrefoil bowl, late 18th century, decorated with a belted band with the Giffard family crest of panther's head couped full-faced spotted various with flames issueing from his mouth, the centre with the Giffard family arms and motto PRENEZ HALEINE TIREZ FORT, impressed TURNER, 39cm in length Provenance: The Oxborrow collection.Note: The arms, crest and motto are those of GIFFARD of Staffordshire. This dish was probably supplied to the family seat of Chillington Hall near Wolverhampton. The Giffard family have held Chillington since 1178. The current Hall is the third house to have been on the site.
