蓋盒為半透明瑪瑙製成，呈八瓣花形，外包覆鏤鏨金片，頂端連一金環繫鏈。瑪瑙盒質地細膩溫潤，打磨光亮，甚為素雅。盒及蓋裝飾紋樣相同，皆以金片鏤鏨刻劃一對鴛鴦，佇立於繁花茂葉間，鴛鴦翎羽、花瓣及葉片紋路皆鏨刻細膩。其紋飾在瑩光四溢的瑪瑙襯托下，顯露華麗尊貴氣韻。遼代受到契丹族的漁獵生活及四時捺缽習俗影響，以鴛鴦、天鵝、鴻雁等動物為題材的裝飾盛行。其中，鴛鴦、鳳凰、孔雀等成對禽鳥圖案，象徵著和諧與幸福成雙，常出現於當時金器與織物上。本件蓋盒造形小巧，玲瓏精緻，搭配雕鏨悅目的雅緻圖案，令人愛不釋手。
