盤以瑪瑙雕琢，葵口，淺腹，圈足亦呈葵口微外撇。通體打磨光潔透亮，紋理自然斑斕。口沿包金，金邊上鏨細密花紋。整體造形典雅，曲線流暢，華美的金邊與瑪瑙晶瑩多變的光澤巧妙搭配，相互襯托，展現富貴典雅之姿。自古以來，色彩斑斕的瑪瑙便是古人作玉時的重要材料之一。高檔瑪瑙多來自西域，不僅稀有，且帶強烈異國色彩，倍受皇室及其貴族青睞。《太平御覽》：「魏文帝曰馬腦勒賦，日玉屬也，出自西域，文理交錯有似馬腦，故其方因以名之。」而瑪瑙因性脆，韌性差，工藝技術要求較高。本件瑪瑙盤器形規整，口沿處鑲嵌精美金邊，顯示出高超技藝，應是當時嚴格管理的專門作坊高級工匠所製作的綺麗珍品。
