区大典，字徽五，晚号遗史，西樵区村人。清光绪二十九年(1903年)进士，授编修，诰授中宪大夫。辛亥革命后，留香港任香港大学教授30年。素性勤劬精密，治学不倦。古文出入韩愈、欧阳修;史学研究兵事地理;经学博宗北宋周敦颐和程颐，纯粹精微，不拘于一家学说。诲人庄恳笃切，娓娓忘倦。港内学校，争相罗致以为荣。大典不辞劳苦，先后兼掌教数十校。香港开埠百年，提倡国学，教泽广被，以大典为第一人。著有《孟子通义》和《老子注》。晚年潜心易学，写《易经讲义》未竟而卒，享年72。
