A PALA SENA BRONZE VISHNU TRIADBangladesh, 11th - 12th century. Neatly cast and incised copper alloy statue with rich dark patina. Provenance: From the private collection of Thomas Chen, Taiwan. Thereafter German private collection. Thomas Chen (Chen Baizhong) has published, among others, the well-known reference book ‘Gods of Wealth in Tibetan Buddhism Art’.Condition: Outstanding condition, especially given the high age of the statue. Deeply grown natural patina, some minor nicks here and there.Weight: 179.8 grams.Dimensions: Height 7.7 cm.The four-armed Vishnu is seated in Dhyanasana atop a round lotus pedestal holding his classical attributes, the conch, the disk, a lotus flower and a mace. He is flanked by two attendants.Compare with three very similar Pala-Sena bronzes in the collection of the Freer Sackler Galleries, Washington, USA, sharing the same beaded round bases and pointed facial features.
