Ink on paper, framed. Pu Ru was a traditional Chinese painter and calligrapher and a member of the Manchu Aisin Gioro clan, the ruling house of the Qing dynasty. He was a cousin to Puyi, the last Emperor of China. He was reputed to be as talented as the famous southern artist Zhang Daqian. Together, they became known as "Pu of the North and Zhang of the South." PROVENANCE: Estate of Li Shuying, Alabama USA. She was born in 1906, classmate of the daughter of Chen Shuren who was a famous politition and painter in the early 20th century. Her mother was awarded for helping the Xinhai Revolution (1911), which overthrew Qing dynasty and established the Republic of China.57x29cm
