Signed on the face, 'Beulah H. Brown'. image - 24 tall X 18 wide, overall - 22 tall X 28 wide. All measurements are approximate. Artist Biography: Beulah Brown a.k.a. Beulah Elizabeth Hazelrigg Brown, (American, 1892 â 1987), is a painter, designer and teacher who was part of the âGroup of Twelveâ. The âGroup of Twelveâ included contemporary, female artists from Indiana. The Group was known for their ability to create works which blended physical, intellectual and emotional intensity and included artists Betsy Stirratt, Charlene Marsh, Karen Thompson and Bonnie Sklarski. Brown studied at the John Herron Art Institute and was taught by William Forsyth. At this time, she met and married fellow artist Francis Focer Brown. The couple taught art in New Richmond and Mitchell Indiana. Beulah had an interest in fabric design and patterns, creating bold, abstract designs which pre-dated the Pattern and Decoration (P&D)
