Nishijima Katsuyuki (Japanese, b. 1945), Circa 1976, Japan. Woodblock print on paper titled, "Sekka" (Snow Flowers), depicting a traditional Japanese building in the snow. Released in a numbered edition, this being no. 302 of 500 examples. Signed, titled, and numbered in the margins in graphite by the artist and with the artist's chop stamp. Dimensions are: image size - 16 inches wide X 11 1/4 inches tall, frame size - 20 7/8 inches wide X 16 3/8 inches tall. All measurements are approximate. Artist Biography: Katsuyuki Nishijima was born in 1945 in the Yamaguchi Prefecture. He began his studies of woodblock printing at Mikumo Publishing house in Kyoto. He maintains the tradition print process when creating his woodblocks. His prints do not feature people but instead they feature landscapes and places that evoke a sense of traditional Japanese culture. Condition: Not examined out of the frame but visibly free of rips, discoloration, and restoration. Provenance: From the estate of Robert and Virginia Brewster. Mr. Brewster was with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and he and his family resided in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia. and Korea. Acquisitions were made from 1957 to 1980 throughout Asia.
