Group of 4 carved wooden and giltwood Buddha and monk figures, Thai, 19th & 20th century. Two of the Buddhas are depicted in the bhumisparsha Buddha; while the third Buddha sits on a boulder with legs bent before him and hands pointing forward on his lap, right hand upturned. The monk kneels with palms pressed before him. Dimensions are: largest figure - 14 1/4 inches high X 3 7/8 inches wide X 4 5/8 inches long at base. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Cracking and splitting of wood in all but the smallest figure; wear to gilding; large loss to wood of base of largest figure (about 4 inches X 2 1/4 inches X 1/4 inch deep at deepest point). Provenance: Southern CA. estate of a retired Airline Stewardess who was flying the Asian routes in the 1960's and 70's where these were purchased.
