臂搁为漆器工艺与竹刻艺术相结合之制品，即可有助书写，亦可案头赏玩，为文人清玩佳器。臂搁以竹为胎，背面髹红漆，侧面及正面髹黑漆。正面以竹刻技法浅刻青竹寿石，两只春燕鸣于盛开的绣球花枝之上，一女赏花，一女骑牛布局文雅舒朗，雕刻雅致。背面刻双狮戏球正面留白处楷书落「子庄刻」款。包虎臣，字子庄，一作名子庄，字虎臣。清归安（今浙江湖州）诸生。家多旧藏宋元名迹。篆隶宗邓石如，亦善治印，与徐三庚友善。兼善山水，胸有卷轴，笔无俗尘。有题画诗一卷传世。
