壁瓶以铜为胎錾刻成型，其胎地以錾刻的手法表现了众多细密、流动、突起的西番莲纹。整器纹饰在近于圆雕的胎体上表现，錾刻工艺精巧细微，加之胎体鎏金工艺，使整器显得富丽堂皇，华美异常，极具装饰效果。壁瓶，因挂饰于墙壁而名，均为竖向的一半，背面平坦有孔，以利于悬挂。壁瓶最早出现在明代万历时期，在清代非常流行，典型的如乾隆皇帝的三希堂，其中壁面上就挂有许多壁瓶。壁瓶作半切观音瓶形，正面如常，敞口，鼓腹，背面有紫檀托，正以掐丝珐琅工艺做御题诗嵌入其中。表现精美，且制作精良。
