ALS as president signed ÂM. Van Buren, one page both sides, 7.75 x 9.75, June 8, 1840. Letter to Benjamin Franklin Butler, the former United States Attorney General, in part: "I have made one alteration in respect to a statement of the rule of the Court which appears to be unanimous and of the existence of which I was not advised. It must have been passed I think long after my day. It is not true you know that I obligated to Mr. Graham. He and Mr. Moultry quarreled and Mr. Moultry refused to have further intercourse with him. I proposed that the gentleman retire and select new friends to which Mr. Graham replied to agree...I presumed it was not necessary to state the particulars farther than you have done."
