Venus 178 TJ, black dial, luminous baton markers and Arabic 12, white luminous pointed baton hands, white centre chronograph hand, subsidiary dials for constant seconds, 30 minute and 12 hour recording, rotating bezel with slide rule, snap case back, on a Breitling stainless steel bracelet with fold over clasp, case back, dial, movement, crown and clasp signed, accompanied by a Breitling box and white card sleeve, diameter 41mm, bracelet 19cm The Navitimer is probably the most iconic model produced by Breitling and was first developed in 1952 as the successor to the Chronomat. It was designed as a mini computer to be worn on the wrists of pilots, so they could make in flight calculations such as fuel consumption, average speeds or climbing speeds. Earlier examples of the Navitimer came with beaded bezels and were marketed to the AOPA (Aircraft and Pilot Association). Over time the Navitimer was updated with various dial designs. In 1965 the beaded bezel was replaced for a milled edge, which can be found on this example. It is also at this time that the Twin Jet logo can be found on the dial.
