August Ungethüm was a successful Viennese cabinet maker who worked for his family furniture company, founded by his father, August Friedrich Ungethüm (1834-1905), to create some of the most popular furniture in Austria during the Vienna Secession period. He studied under Josef Hoffman and Otto Wagner, and designed his own furniture as well as producing designs by such notable designers as Koloman Moser.
