19th century, Russian icon of Nativity of the Virgin Yaroslavl. Egg tempera, gold leaf gesso on wood. Kovcheg, two splints in the back. In the middle scene of the icon is Saint Annareclining on her bed after giving birth. At her feet a midwife with a servant is holding the newborn child. At the top are two women bearing gifts to Saint Anna. On the right are Saint Anna and Saint Joachim embracing each other. On theleft is Saint Joachim by him self. 10 1/2 x 12 1/2 in (27 x 30 cm)
