A FINE SCOTTISH REGENCY ROSEWOOD AND SIMULATED ROSEWOOD BREAKFRONT BOOKCASE IN THE MANNER OF JAMES MEIN, KELSO, CIRCA 1820 the marble top with applied cast brass gallery, raised above base with arrangement of six adjustable shelves, each with beaded mouldings and reeded and lappet-carved pilaster mouldings, the whole on reeded spreading square feet 183cm wide, 101.5cm high, 46cm deep Note: James Mein was a member of a family of cabinetmakers working in Kelso until the closure of the firm through insolvency in 1854. Work from James Mein (uncle and nephew) was commissioned by the 5th and 6th Dukes of Roxburgh for Floors Castle, and by the Earls of Haddington.
