GREEK REVIVAL PAINTED FIRECLAY CHIMNEY POT BY ALEXANDER 'GREEK' THOMSON CIRCA 1877 of cylindrical form incised and painted with Greek Revival anthemion and scrollwork banded decoration 40.5cm diameter, 110cm high Note: This chimney pot was designed by the eminent Glasgow architect Alexander 'Greek' Thomson (1817-1875) for Millbrae Crescent, Glasgow. Millbrae Crescent consists of an elegant row of two-storey terraced houses believed to have been designed by Thomson and Robert Turnbull and was completed in 1877. 'Greek' Thomson was so named because of his decision, in the mid-1850s, to adopt the Greek idiom as his only language of expression.
