A GOLD MOUNTED RING ENCLOSING A LOCK OF PRINCE CHARLES EDWARD STUART'S HAIR MID-18TH CENTURY the oval gold head enclosing a tied lock of hair under a glazed domed panel, the reverse of the setting engraved "Mèche de cheveux de Prince Charles Edward Stuart 1744.", set to a simple gold shank Ring head 13mm x 17mm Literature: Kelvin, M. (2003). The Jacobite Legacy. 1st ed. Wigtown: G C Book Publishers Ltd, p.132 - 133. Note: While various locks of Prince Charles Edward Stuart's hair survive it is highly unusual to find one with a dated presentation and even more so to a date pre the launch of the '45 campaign. Given the date of this presentation, it appears this lock must have been given to a supporter while Charles waited to embark on his journey to Scotland from Dunkirk in 1744.
