SCOTT CAMPBELL (CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN) GO HOME DAD, YOU'RE DRUNK, 2012 Signed and dated 2012 verso, polyurethane foam, resin and ink over a wooden frame 129.5cm x 99cm x 9cm (51in x 39in x 3.5in) and two further works by the artist, a triptych, 'Give Me Head Til I'm Dead' & 'No More Bad News' (3) Note: Scott Campbell, whose 'Saved Tattoo' parlor in Brooklyn is a destination for ink aficionados such as designer Marc Jacobs, has in recent years branched out into the contemporary art world, presenting bodies of work that dynamically comprise the “alternative” aesthetic and draftsman’s expertise of his trade. These works (from a full series of 15 works depicting the phases of the moon) were exhibited during Frieze London 2012, in an exhibition organised by OHWOW Gallery, L.A. 'A lot of what I make is illustrative, but often a sort of carving or relief. These works developed through experimenting with new ways to convey an image. Each is carved from a block of dense foam, covered in layers of drawings and writings, and then encased in a block of murky resin. The lights and darks that you see are created by the varying depths of the submerged landscape... (I take) the notion of a revered, authoritative symbol, and challenge it with playful gestures and immature profundity. As with other works, these pieces command a very strong presence in a space, and at the same time, have an intimacy to them that when approached is nice to get lost in.' - Scott Campbell
