行炉是从佛事香炉中逐步演化而来的。它起源于一种被称为“鹊尾炉”的器物。《法苑珠林》中有记载，“香炉有柄者曰鹊尾炉”。鹊尾炉的造型来自西亚，后由印度传入中亚。唐宋时流行使用瓷质行炉，各大窑口均有烧造。此行炉为青釉瓷质，胎釉结合紧密，造型秀美，口沿处莲瓣纹刻画精致，古意盎然。
